Abstract

In our research, we were specifically interested in describing the main causes that can cause school failure in studies in young children Montrouisians in the fundamental cycle. To try to
answer it, we had to trace the family, socio-economic factors and school difficulties, in particular poverty, which seem to influence the school failure of these young people in
the commune of Montrouis.
The survey of young people in the commune of Montrouis who failed in their studies at the fundamental school, was carried out using quantitative questionnaires in order to identify the
main causes contributing to progress towards school failure in the studies. The data collection or application of these questionnaires took place during the month of October to November
2022; we interview 44 randomly selected respondents who failed in their fundamental studies, including 23 girls and 21 bays, 28 young children from rural area and 16 young children from
urban area. The average age of respondents is between 6 and 14 years and older.
The analysis of the data collected dealt with certain factors associated with poor children in the commune of Montrouis predestined to non-schooling. In 2019, the report on the poverty
reduction strategy of the town hall of this so-called municipality affirmed that the Montrouisienne population lived below the poverty line: 88% live in rural areas, 12% live in
downtown areas. The results of our study also show that 90% of children are rather poor because the family income of these young people is around 20 000 to 30 000 gourdes per
month, what is considered low income compared to the standard of living in Haiti. Living in a context of poverty is unquestionably an important factor in school failure. Among the main cases that have caught our attention are the family problems, socio-economic status, and the environment in which the children live, school difficulties and school repetition. Each of
these bad situations can become a masor cause of school failure in studies.
Education is really the basis of human knowledge and it must be given to children and to all people, so that they have access to all the means available. It by giving an education to the children of today that we will teach future generations to master their destiny.
It is necessary to offer appropriate support to children who have left school, who are among
the poorest and most vulnerable children, and lead them towards a responsible adult life in
the respect and promotion of cultural traditions and values.
