The study is carried out in the municipality of Beaumont during the periods from 2018 to 2021. It is carried out with the objective of analyzing the situation of coffee production in Beaumont. To achieve the objective, we used a survey questionnaire using the survey method, identified through in-depth focus group interviews composed of stakeholders in the sector and individual interviews conducted with producers for data collection.
At the end of the results: Almost all of the producers are very old, the average age being between 54-57 years old. 17% of educated farmers cannot read or write. They access land in several ways, inheritance is the dominant mode of acquisition. a high rate of crop diversification: Yams represent the highest frequency of association of producers.
The main marketing circuits identified: a short circuit and a long circuit and coffee intended for export follows a rather particular secondary circuit.
Coffee production, marketing and consumption face challenges. However, the average production per tile producer is 418.22 pounds. Our calculations show us at the level of coffee production including associated crops would have added a margin of at least 59,310 gourdes to producers, and the cooperatives have on average sold 2166.75 pounds of green coffee and achieve an overall revenue estimated at $8125.31 US in the sale of green coffee. Speculators averaged 4,500 pounds of ground coffee sold during the study periods.
Possible courses of action to support the development of this chain are:
Focus on strengthening farmer cooperatives;
Study the possibilities of market chain financing systems/trade financing with buyers in order to enable the modernization of the production system;
Provide continued support for cooperative action;
Provide support to women;
Strengthening the security of coffee traders in the markets.
